Who is God to You?
“Let them praise the name of the Lord: for his name alone is excellent; his glory is above the earth and heaven” (Psalm 148:13) KJV
In the Bible, a name was not only identification but an identity.
A special meaning was always attached to a name.
Names had an explanatory purpose e.g., Jabez (see 1 Chronicles 4; 9, 10) “Because I bore him out of sorrows.” Nabal is another example whose names means fool. (see 1 Samuel 25:25)
In different cultures, we give names based on meaning.
Does your name have a meaning or a history to you?
Our text today says Praise the name of the Lord for HIS name is excellent.
Throughout the scriptures, God reveals Himself to us through His names.
When we study these names, the central personality, and nature of the one who bears them become more apparent to us.

Is He your most high God, all-sufficient one? Master, Lord of peace, the Lord who will provide?
Is He your Father?
We must be careful not to make God an “it” or “thing” to which we pray. HE is our Jehovah raah, the Lord, our shepherd.
God knows us by name, and we should know Him by His too.
Friends do call each other unique names that are known only to those circles of friends, and once they hear that name, they respond.
In sports, as the cheerleader calls out the names, and sing praises of the players they play better.
Husbands and wives call themselves unusual names based on their relationship to each other, which affects their relationship with each other.
“Hallow be your name.” To hallow is to make holy or set apart as being worthy of absolute devotion. To hallow, the name of God is to regard Him in that special revelation to you.
