“In that day, he which shall be upon the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away: and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back. Remember Lot’s wife. Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it, and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it.” (Luke 17:31-33) KJV
In the context of His second coming, Jesus gives us as an example, Lot’s wife.
Why did Jesus speak about her?
She perished, even though she was the wife of a godly man.
Lot wasn’t a perfect man and not what he was supposed to be, but some of the last words of the Bible tells us that Lot was a righteous man (see 2 Peter 2:8).
She perished, even though she was warned of the danger.
Angels came to them and warned them to escape.
Jesus Christ, Himself came and said the same thing to us:
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. [I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls.]” Matthew 11:28 (AMPC)
She perished, even though she made an effort to save herself.
She heard the warning and left the city.
She ran for a while… but then she stopped and looked back because she didn’t believe the word of God.
She perished, even though she was on the way of salvation.
It seems that not all get to the finish line.
Are you going to make it to the end?
She perished, even though she committed only one sin.
She looked back. (Genesis19:26)
That sin was the greatest one: the sin of unbelief.
The sinners will perish not because of their significant number of sins, but because of their sin nature
“When someone becomes a Christian, he becomes a brand new person inside. He is not the same anymore. A new life has begun!” 2 Corinthians 5:17 (TLB)
Jesus Christ says He is the only way. (John 14:6)
Are you really saved?
Come to Him!
Remember Lot’s wife!
Whoever tries to keep their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life will preserve it.
“After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward. And Abram said, Lord God, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus? And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir.” (Genesis 15:1-3) KJV
Have you ever had the feeling that God is not listening to your prayers?
Have you ever have the feeling that God seems to delay?
You know He will do what you have asked, but sometimes it seems that He delays.
In these circumstances, we are tempted to take matters into our own hands.
When we look into Abraham’s life, we can see what mistakes he made.
He assumed that God has not given him an heir.
Don’t take hasty decisions in moments of doubt
Abraham made the mistake of looking for solutions in Egypt.
There will be times in your Christian life when things are so complicated that you will start thinking: ‘Will it be ok if I turn my back on God for just five minutes so that I can work this thing out?’
This is not a pleasant thought! Not at all!
Don’t play the self-pity blame God game.
Abraham saw that at his age he cannot have any child and he was thinking that Eliezer will be his heir.
Don’t quit on God when things seem to be impossible to solve.
Just trust Him and move on.
Abraham made the mistake of listening to the advice of “others.”
His wife had a ‘brilliant’ idea.
He took Hagar for a wife to help God.
Don’t compromise with your God-given body when you feel low, depressed and forsaken.
Abraham made a mistake to tell only half-truths, to survive.
“Since we are approaching the end of all things, be intentional, purposeful, and self-controlled so that you can be given to prayer.” 1 Peter 4:7 TPT
Praying is talking to God using His Words to articulate your requests
He honors His words so praying is made easier by presenting your desires backed by His Word.
We live in an age where so many facts come up concerning your request
To be given to prayer requires you to see and say things from God’s perspective.
“Set a guard, O Lord, before my mouth; keep watch at the door of my lips.” Psalm 141:3 AMPC
Don’t just blab out the facts as it is happening
“Post a guard at my mouth; GOD set a watch at the door of my lips. ….May the Just One set me straight, may the Kind One correct me, ”Psalm 141:3-7 MSG
Allow the Holy Spirit to guide you in using the Words of God to repackage your prayers to Him
Having done that. Have Faith in God.
“For whatever is born of God is victorious over the world; and this is the victory that conquers the world, even our faith.” 1 John 5:4 AMPC
“And this is the confidence (the assurance, the privilege of boldness) which we have in Him: [we are sure] that if we ask anything (make any request) according to His will (in agreement with His own plan), He listens to and hears us.” 1 John 5:14 AMPC
He hears you when you pray.
He is at work bringing solutions to the problems you have by faith presented to Him
Don’t use your mouth to negate your prayers by being “politically and socially correct” in the narratives to your friends on the matter.
Once you have prayed and handed the matter to God, watch how you describe it to others.
Regardless of what you see. Say it is well. (2Kings 4:18-37)
Yes you can be a faithful prayer warrior in these challenging end times
Yes, He hears your prayers, your sighs and the deep breaths you take when you see or hear some news.
“As for you also, because of and for the sake of the [covenant of the Lord with His people, which was sealed with sprinkled] covenant blood, I have released and sent forth your imprisoned people out of the waterless pit. Return to the stronghold [of security and prosperity], you prisoners of hope; even today do I declare that I will restore double your former prosperity to you.” Zechariah 9:11-12 (AMPC)
Jesus Christ paid the full price in the new covenant.
When you are given to prayers, yes, He Restores — even double fold.
“The end of the world is coming soon. Therefore, be earnest and disciplined in your prayers.”
1 Peter 4:7 NLT
The discipline of prayers is to keep confessing the Word of God on the subject matter.
The desires you followed when you didn’t know better.
“As God’s obedient children, never again shape your lives by the desires that you followed when you didn’t know better. Instead, shape your lives to become like the Holy One who called you. For Scripture says: “You are to be holy because I am holy.”1 Peter 1:14-16 TPT
What type of desires are you manifesting as a child of God?
Some are exhibiting things that clearly by their fruits are not of God.
You are burning strange incense on the altar of God.
They carry over the things of the world into the kingdom of God
Jesus, our Lord, and Savior, is the truth.
“He never sinned, and he never spoke deceitfully.”1 Peter 2:22 TPT
How come the lies and deceitfulness in the Church?
Where is the tendency to manipulate and put others down coming from?
When it is all about you alone shining?
If any man be in Christ, he is a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17)
Don’t let the old man in the flesh rule
Completely nail it to the Cross
Get rid of the various worldly desires
Don’t let the spirit of mammon drive your program in the Church of God.
Do God’s assignment the way God has directed.
“But give reverent honor in your hearts to the Anointed One and treat him as the holy Master of your lives. And if anyone asks about the hope living within you, always be ready to explain your faith.” 1 Peter 3:15 TPT
Are you honoring God with what you are doing?
Recheck your inner heart, where is that desire coming from?
“When he was verbally abused, he did not return with an insult; when he suffered, he would not threaten retaliation. Jesus faithfully entrusted himself into the hands of God, who judges righteously.”
1 Peter 2:23 TPT
Constructive criticism? learn from it and to become wiser.
When we are speaking about unjustified criticism, remember that our Lord Jesus Christ was criticized too, so you are not alone.
When you are tempted to be overwhelmed by resentments and ready to respond back, please read these verses:
“For what merit is it to endure mistreatment for wrongdoing? Yet if you are mistreated when you do what is right, and you faithfully endure it, this is commendable before God. In fact, you were called to live this way, because Christ also suffered in your place, leaving you his example for you to follow.” 1 Peter 2:20-21 TPT
Accept criticism, in good faith.
Doing so, you will be demonstrating one of the qualities of the greatest man to have ever lived.
Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
There are going to be moments when you will be criticized.
How do you react?
Did you know that it is better for you to forgive than to internalize bitterness and pain?
Forgiveness will release you from bitterness.
At times they will really hit you “under the belt.”
Ask yourself again. What will Jesus do?
I urge you today to use criticism as an opportunity to learn, not to lose.
